Important Club Communication ahead of Tuesday's (27th August) SGM – 23rd August
The club is looking forward to the special general meeting on Tuesday to seek approval to complete the purchase of the grounds in Cornelscourt. We welcome the opportunity to present all the facts to our members as there has been a lot of misrepresentation of the proposal on various social media platforms.
We have noted a recent article on the Irish Times website that states that the Rugby club claim that they have legal advice that the proposed sale is not valid. The Rugby club's advisers made this claim in writing to the Parish in late June and claimed that it had received advice from a senior counsel. The Parish asked the Rugby club to provide a copy of the written legal opinion, but this has to date not been provided to them.
The legal team in the Diocese and its external legal advisers Mason Hayes and Curran are adamant that there is no substance to the claim by the Rugby club. In addition, in early July the Parish legal advisers provided a detailed letter and set of backing documents to the rugby club's legal advisers which clearly shows that the Parish can dispose of it as they wish.
We will be happy to take any questions from our members on this topic at the SGM on Tuesday.
Ends.
