While we were delighted to announce the great news that the Foxrock Parish sports field had been acquired for continued sporting use in a time when there is a huge demand for sporting facilities in the area, we are aware of comments on social media and other channels that the Geraldines and the Parish are attempting to lessen or terminate St Brigids Rugby Clubs' (the "rugby club") usage of the grounds and that this threatens the future of the rugby club.
The Geraldines can confirm that the following has been included as part of a written agreement binding the club and the Parish, and signed on 6 June 2024:
“In consideration of the sale of the Premises to the GAA Club, the GAA Club hereby acknowledges, confirms and agrees that it will permit the Sporting Clubs and Other Users to have continued use of the Premises following the completion of the sale of the Premises to the GAA Club for their various sporting activities and that the GAA Club will continue to permit the said use in the same manner as has taken place to date, in accordance with the extent of their use to date, as set out in the Second Schedule” .
The Second Schedule to this written agreement expressly identifies “St Brigid’s Boys National School Rugby Team” as one of the “Sporting Clubs and Other users” entitled to benefit from this written agreement.
A redacted version of the side agreement was shared with the rugby club and they were asked to revert to the legal advisers of the Parish by today to explain how it does not protect their usage. To our knowledge, at this time, they have yet to reply.
When the rugby clubs legal advisers revert to the Parish with their feedback on the side agreement, the Geraldines are happy to meet to address any concerns.
Our club is enriched by having members and coaches who operate in both clubs and we believe that this will continue well into the future, with the further benefit of improving sports facilities in Cornelscourt.
